n-Butyl Bromide Experiment

The reaction of n-butyl bromide with sodium ethoxide in ethyl alcohol at 55° C gives a mixture of n-butyl ethyl ether and 1-butene.

The ether is formed by replacing the -Br group with -OCH2CH3.

1-Butene comes from the elimination of an H on carbon 2 and a Br from carbon 1.

Let's see how the rate of this reaction changes with the concentration of sodium ethoxide and then look at some simulations of how the reaction takes place.
