Electrons

This partially evacuated tube has metal electodes at each end.

A high voltage place across the electrodes causes a current to flow.

A thin piece of metal coated with a material that emits light when struck by electrons is sealed inside the tube.

A magnet causes the electron beam to be displaced.

The other pole of the magnet causes the beam to go down.
