Exponential Notation - Scientific Notation

When working with very large or very small numbers it is easy to make a mistake reading numbers in ordinary decimal notation. For example, the mass of the earth is 5,916,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 g. Counting the zeros can be difficult.

We need a clearer way to represent such numbers. To do this we will use various powers of 10.

What is the decimal representation of 102? (Note 102 = 10 * 10)
