Hydrogen


The simplest element is called hydrogen. The symbol H is used to represent hydrogen in chemical reactions. Hydrogen exists as the dimer which is written as H2 where the subscript 2 indicates two hydrogen atoms.

Hydrogen is a gas at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. It reacts with oxygen in the air to form water.
